I’m writing to request continuation of the current pricing agreement related to .org domains. My company works with non-profits, and the current agreement promotes their activities by allowing for a low cost of entry into new areas of service that need or are benefited by obtaining a new domain name. Allowing a monopoly freedom to set prices is a guarantee that prices will increase dramatically. The only way to prevent this is to put constraints on the monopoly. Please maintain the annual price increase ceiling. Steve 989-415-1563

From a technology professional that works in the non-profit space, I can tell you that donations and resources across the board are down, and these organizations do not have extra money to spend on more domain fees. I would ask that the .org top level domain be spared this proposed price increase. Thanks! Eric Phillips 405-834-0788

Greetings Personally I think org domains are public utility and that prices should increase only to holders not showing on their sites anything useful for the community. As a registrant of multiple .org domains at 4 organizations, I am not supportive of the price cap removals. Top level domain registrars are monopolies. Protections must be in place to restrict the abuse of the monopoly they are licensed by ICANN to hold. Please do not approve the removal of price caps. Registrants should be able to retain the price paid when they first registered the domain with no price increase. Adrian Smith

Dear ICANN, I represent many not-for-profit or non-profit organizations. As such, many of them have .org domain names. I’m opposed to any changes that would allow registries to charge any amount they wish for domain renewals without sane caps. I’ve seen the negative consequences of such pricing first hand. Many domains I’ve purchased with newer TLDs are often very inexpensive at first, but the renewal prices often spike to crazy amounts. This would put an undue hardship on many smaller, non-profit organizations. Sincerely, Tim Flight

Dear ICANN, I am a .org registrant. I run a small non-profit site that is for information only, solely to help people. It is not an official non-profit, but I collect no income from it (I donate my time and expense). If prices skyrocket on .org domains I would be forced to close my site. No equivalent .com name is available since I registered my .org name over 15 years ago! ICANN staff should not unilaterally impose URS in legacy TLDs when that issue is precisely what is being examined by the volunteer ICANN Working Group that has been mandated to review this issue. I believe that legacy gTLDs are fundamentally different from for-profit new gTLDs. Legacy TLDs are essentially a public trust, unlike new gTLDs which were created, bought and paid for by private interests. Registrants of legacy TLDs are entitled to price stability and predictability, and should not be subject to price increases with no maximums. Unlike new gTLDs, registrants of legacy TLDs registered their names and made their online presence on legacy TLDs on the basis that price caps would continue to exist. Unrestrained price increases on the millions of .org registrants who are not-for-profits or non-profits would be unfair to them and would force many of us to close our sites. Unchecked price increases have the potential to result in hundreds of millions of dollars being transferred from these organizations to one non-profit, the Internet Society, with .org registrants receiving no benefit in return. ICANN should not allow one non-profit nearly unlimited access to the funds of other non-profits. ICANN appears to be entirely catering to registries by removing price caps.
