Please do not allow this increase of price of .org domains (and others). I understand it may seem logical from a contractual standpoint but it will have an extremely negative impact on the entire internet.

I am a .org registrant (not-for-profit). I believe that legacy gTLDs are fundamentally different from for-profit new gTLDs. Legacy TLDs are essentially a public trust, unlike new gTLDs which were created, bought and paid for by private interests. Registrants of legacy TLDs are entitled to price stability and predictability, and should not be subject to price increases with no maximums. Unlike new gTLDs, registrants of legacy TLDs registered their names and made their online presence on legacy TLDs on the basis that price caps would continue to exist. Unrestrained price increases on the millions of .org registrants who are not-for-profits or non-profits would be unfair to them. Unchecked price increases have the potential to result in hundreds of millions of dollars being transferred from these organizations to one non-profit, the Internet Society, with .org registrants receiving no benefit in return. ICANN should not allow one non-profit nearly unlimited access to the funds of other non-profits. ICANN appears to be entirely catering to registries by removing price caps. ICANN should stand up for the public interest and registrants!

I am writing in opposition to the removal of pricing caps for the .org tld. That tld is widely used by non-profit organizations who might not be able to afford steep increases in their URLS. This could cause a great amount of upheaval and confusion if long standing non-profit and community organization have to give up their tld's and they are replaced by others with different agendas. How would low revenue, non-profit organizations be able to have a web presence if popular tld's are only available to the affluent? Bad idea. -- Gervase R. Hi there, I wish to object to the proposed changes to .ORG domain names by ICANN. Affordable domains are essential for a free and open internet. By removing price caps, this would almost certainly result in significant price increases. There are many examples across the world where the removal of price caps has had this effect, even with “competition”, e.g. the British intercity passenger rail network, energy prices in Australia. Please retain the cap on charges for .ORG and other domain names. As an owner of several domains for over a decade, these changes concern me. Thank you for considering my comments. To whom it may concern, I would like to lodge a strong objection to the ICANN proposal regarding new PIR pricing terms for .org domains. Relative to the current agreement, the proposal would greatly increase the possibility of large price increases for .org domains that would ultimately be passed on to consumers. Given the key purpose of .org domains is for non-profit, public-interest entities, I believe this outcome would be detrimental to those organisations and the public they represent. I have registered a .org domain name for my volunteer-run nonprofit organization. The proposed removal of price caps of .org domain names is a terrible idea which could discourage a lot of young social entrepreneurs (like myself) to own a domain, and I strongly recommend against it. Without the price cap, it'll probably still be cheap to purchase a domain name. But if someone has already built a whole website on a domain name, of course they will want to keep that domain name, and then the price is likely to skyrocket. This will be problematic, especially for social organizations, as their focus is not on profit, and thus there may be no budget for owning domain names anymore. Being the founder of such an organization, I truly hope the price cap will not be removed, so that I can focus on creating a positive impact in the world, instead of trying to make money in order to keep my domain name.
