I am a .org registrant. Legacy gTLDs are fundamentally different from for-profit new gTLDs and should be treated that way. Legacy TLDs are what the internet was built on. They are essentially a public trust. They are very different than new gTLDs which were created, bought and paid for by private parties. Registrants of these legacy extensions should be entitled to price predictability & stability. Advancements in technology should be driving the cost of operating a registry down, yet prices keep going up? Removing price caps is unfair to the millions of domain registrants. They will have no price protections. Every registrant will be at the complete mercy and whims of the registry. This could result in a transfer of funds from millions of non-profits to one non-profit, with no benefits to the domain registrants. ICANN is supposed to represent a "bottom up, consensus-driven multistakeholder model". ICANN should not unilaterally impose URS in legacy TLDs when that issue is precisely what is being examined by the volunteer ICANN Working Group who has been mandated to review this issue. ICANN should be looking out for the .org registrants, in particular the non-profits. There is no "public benefit" justification to these changes. It is just a handout to business at the expense of registrants’ rights and protections. Where are the protections for the millions of domain registrants that this could effect in a negative way? These changes would give way too much power to the registry. This is not acceptable for a "public benefit" organization that exists to represent many stakeholders.

Hello I received information that you are considering changing the requirements for .org websites and increasing that to any amount to renew our domains. I am completely against it and not sure why this is something that should be any different from .com sites. Some of us small business owners such as myself who are in business ot help the community need low prices. I provide counseling services to the community and at already reduced prices, I would have to raise my fees just because of the increase from you along with all the other overhead expenses of running this type of organization. Please reconsider this as some of us need low prices and expenses in order to help as many members of our community as possible. Thank you. ICANN staff should not unilaterally impose URS in legacy TLDs when that issue is precisely what is being examined by the volunteer ICANN Working Group who has been mandated to review this issue. ICANN policy making is supposed to be a ‘bottom up, multi-stakeholder model’. I believe that legacy gTLDs are fundamentally different from for-profit new gTLDs. Legacy TLDs are essentially a public trust, unlike new gTLDs which were created, bought and paid for by private interests. Registrants of legacy TLDs are entitled to price stability and predictability, and should not be subject to price increases with no maximums. Unlike new gTLDs, registrants of legacy TLDs registered their names and made their online presence on legacy TLDs on the basis that price caps would continue to exist. Unrestrained price increases on the millions of .org registrants who are not-for-profits or non-profits would be unfair to them. Unchecked price increases have the potential to result in hundreds of millions of dollars being transferred from these organizations to one non-profit, the Internet Society, with .org registrants receiving no benefit in return. ICANN should not allow one non-profit nearly unlimited access to the funds of other non-profits. ICANN appears to be entirely catering to registries by removing price caps. ICANN should stand up for the public interest and registrants!

Price caps for the .org domain registrations should be continued at currently authorized levels. Removal of price caps will allow registrars to exploit current and future domain registrants in order to feather their nests to the detriment of all registrants. It is important to maintain a stable and predictable price range within reach of the smallest less funded organizations while maintaining equality among all domain registrants. Hi there - as you can see I use a .org domain, and I have a vested interest in the pricing of the domain registration. The fact that there can only be 1 entity that runs a domain suffix means there is zero competition in that space. That's non-competitive and inherently unfair. If you extend the PIR contract for .org, please cap increases in prices to LESS than 5% per year. That's more than the US inflation rate, and more than fair (esp. given that technical innovations always drive per unit price DOWN, not up). Thank you. Regards, Pawan.

Domain name prices should decrease not increase. It's been over 20 years since domain purchasing has been possible. All processes are largely automated. The price should have gone down not up. Please do not increase domain name prices. Jonas Rullo Multiple Domain Owner.

I am writing to oppose removing the caps on .org domain fees. I run three non profits all with their own .org domains and increased fees on small non-profits make a big impact on our annual budgets. It will dilute the “public” trust of .org’s as well as more organizations just move to .com addresses or other addresses that are less expensive. .org domain addresses, like .gov and .edu have a valuable trust since the public perceives them as “informational” and not “commercial”. On the whole .org addresses have retained that trust. Raising the costs on the organizations that are helping create a better world and protect the values we all care about does not serve the a valuable long term purpose. Again, please do not release the cap on the .org domain names as I’m sure that will raise the costs for all of us, including the small non-profits with very little extra money to spare. ICANN is surely aware that .org domains are the default TLDs for nonprofit organisations worldwide, and has been for decades. What is the purpose of making this change, and exposing such organisations to excessive fee increases? That's exactly what will happen if the reasonable caps currently in place are removed. A perfect example of this can be found in the pharmaceuticals industry and its massive price increases in recent years. I'm not sure how long the people behind this proposed change have been working in the internet industry, but this proposal seems excessively punitive towards tens of thousands of organisations that tend to have a social interest, which makes the change antithetical to the founding ideals of the internet. I'd like to see ICANN reject this proposed change and maintain the current pricing structure, for the benefit of thousands or organisations directly, and via their work, for billions of people ultimately.

Hello, The .org domain is kind of like a "not for profit" designation for many people or charity organizations. I personally have a .org domain because, as a human, I thought is was a more suitable choice than a .com which is a "for profit" kind of deal. Since I use it for my email address, it's not really a "for profit" kind of deal for me so I did not get the .com, but rather got the .org. Thus, I myself personally, and also not-for-profit organizations don't have a lot of money to begin with. So, raising prices on us would be quite a shame. That being said, I must ask: How much control will you have on decentralized domains such as what is being made available at www.unstoppabledomains.com?
