The .org domain has become the extension of choice in the United States for nonprofit corporations. The existing cap of 10% can already be quite steep for nonprofits to consistently have to pay. Nonprofits provide service to their communities and this service relies upon having some degree of predictability of costs. To remove that, as proposed in the new contract, is a disservice. I would ask ICANN to rethink the changes in that section and for ICANN to look for an appropriate balance between the commercial needs of domain registrars and entities using and owning domains. The fact that a single organization is granted a monopoly over .org addresses practically guarantees profitability - this popular TLD practically *guarantees* profit. Thus, regulation is warranted to ensure that prices remain stable. A 10% increase in price is *already* excessive, to be honest, but if you grant unlimited price increases to a monopoly utility, without allowing competitors to bid for the right to provide TLD services, you are dooming this domain to pricing the non-profits out. .org is very important to many non-profits, such as mine. As both a private and commercial user of the communication network developed by the US government with protocols developed by innumerable individuals and organizations without any expectation for remuneration, I find the idea of letting a political organization set prices that have no relation to their cost -of-doing-business. ICANN does not seem torecognize the difference between a legacy extension created with the support ofthe US government, that predates the existence of ICANN and that has millionsof existing users, and the brand new extensions that started off with a new setof rules, in particular no price controls, and no existing registrants. These two groups have completely different characteristics, history, and ownership structure. I believe strongly that itis unacceptable for ICANN to ignore these differences and to propose thatthe two groups be treated the same. Removing price caps is patently unfair to .org domain owners. Many of us have websites that we have used foryears. If price caps are removed, the cost to renew our domain names maybecome prohibitively expensive, and we could be forced to give up websites that areimportant to us. Not all nonprofit organizations are flush with money. As a matter of fact, nonprofit charitable organizations exist to put our hard-earned funds into our programs, not into overhead. The Uniform RapidSuspension policy is too new and untested to apply to domain names that may be20 years old or more. With the URS, the domain names could be taken down in amatter of days with little notice. Why is ICANN trying to remove priceprotections for .org domain owners, so many of which are non-profits, so thatthey can be overcharged for their domain names? To whom It May Concern, "ICANN’s current contract with Public Interest Registry (PIR), the group that runs the .org domain name, allows PIR to increase the wholesale price of .org domains by 10% a year. Now ICANN is proposing extending the contract to operate .org but *letting PIR set whatever prices it wants*." Domain names are a public resource and should not be made profit centers. This is bad policy and will affect organizations ability to retain their hard won place on the public Internet. Please stop this policy of allowing PIR to set whatever prices they want to keep this resource affordable. Hi Team, The internet has become a major democratization factor in the world, giving people a voice when before they had none. I also allows small companies to compete against larger ones with huge barriers to entry, which encourages innovation, small business and self-reliance. We should not be enabling anything that disrupts the nature of this level playing field as would be a detriment to all society. Thanks, Chris

To whom it may concern, As the owner of a .org domain having a web presence is vital. A whole identity is built around a name that fits with the causes or the purpose of the organization. To have the uncertainty of the cost of that domain to increase without any checks and balances can have a great impact on the an organization. I am a .org registrant. ICANN should be doing more to protect owners of .org domain names.
