Hi there, please do not let PIR increase the wholesale price of .org domains by more then 10% a year. This already a lot but without that cap we might be exposed to arbitrary prices by a monopole. CHanging the domain name isn t that easy as we all know. Thanks for taking care Fabian Kern

Dear ICANN, I am a domain name registrant. ICANN staff should not unilaterally impose URS in legacy TLDs when that issue is precisely what is being examined by the volunteer ICANN Working Group who has been mandated to review this issue. ICANN policy making is supposed to be a ‘bottom up, multi-stakeholder model’. I believe that legacy gTLDs are fundamentally different from for-profit new gTLDs. Legacy TLDs are essentially a public trust, unlike new gTLDs which were created, bought and paid for by private interests. Registrants of legacy TLDs are entitled to price stability and predictability, and should not be subject to price increases with no maximums. Unlike new gTLDs, registrants of legacy TLDs registered their names and made their online presence on legacy TLDs on the basis that price caps would continue to exist. Unrestrained price increases on the millions of .org registrants who are not-for-profits or non-profits would be unfair to them. Unchecked price increases have the potential to result in hundreds of millions of dollars being transferred from these organizations to one non-profit, the Internet Society, with .org registrants receiving no benefit in return. ICANN should not allow one non-profit nearly unlimited access to the funds of other non-profits. ICANN appears to be entirely catering to registries by removing price caps. ICANN should stand up for the public interest and registrants!

Who is driving this price increase? Why would a registry need more money? I thought this is a government service and should not seek profit. I bet if we looked into this issue we’d find a scandal. I hope it gets investigated. Sent from my iPhone

Thank you for the opportunity to share my thoughts about the .org domain. I have always considered this top-level domain as a public good. This gives people of all kinds the ability to represent themselves to the world with a domain name of their choosing. Registrars act in a capacity to ensure fair access to this public good and provide a mechanism for handling disputes. While many resources benefit from market controls, which often push prices downward through innovation and competition, the .org TLD is a scarce resource and I worry that by uncapping .org registration costs that those entities with means will prevent those without means access to this public good. The funny thing about all this is that you are interacting with technically competent website owners and builders. We know that your increases are unfounded because you do nothing more except collect more money - only because you can, not because something has actually gotten better, or that there's more that needs to be done on your end. Workers everywhere in the world are living with employers that don't pay enough, so stating that employees cost more is a lie - the bottom line is that once restrictions are removed for pricing - you get greedy. The entire process is automated and has been working fine for many years/ You only need a handful of employees that actually monitor anything that requires interaction, so don't put this on functions that require anything more. So while you write a good story of necessity, you don't really justify a price increase that obviously will never stop once you start. Therefore I must say no to the increase. If this price increase does occur, then you join the a majority of corrupt and immoral institutions throughout the world - and that might be alright with you, but it doesn't make you better...it makes you the same, and that's nothing to be proud of - if you even care. As a small business owner I am against the price cap changes proposed. The price cap increases that are allowed are already much higher than the average rate of inflation and there is no reason I can see to remove or change this pricing cap. Further more small business like me may not be able to afford the increased prices and at this time there have been a great many new barriers to the ability of new internet companies to succeed adding these increases to the costs of startups will further hurt small and startup businesses and decrease innovation. This will be particularly damaging to non-profits and bloggers who already have a great deal of trouble with their limited budgets. This proposal will damage the diversity and inclusivity of the internet particularly in regard to those in smaller more niche areas where the internet is most important for innovation and allowing those that are often forgotten to be heard.

Sirs, I am not a .org domain holder, and I am still concerned that there is a proposal to remove the cap on these domain names pricing. As I understand the situation, it is normally charities and not profit organisations that use these domains. Increasing the prices for the names could very well severely impact the finances of such organisations. I think you should retain the cap, going forward.
