To whom it may concern: I am a .org registrant. ICANN does not seem to recognize the difference between a legacy extension created with the support of the US government, that predates the existence of ICANN and that has millions of existing users and the brand new extensions that started off with a new set of rules, in particular no price controls, and no existing registrants. They have completely different characteristics, history, and ownership structure. It is not acceptable for ICANN to ignore these differences and to propose that they be treated the same. Removing price caps is not fair to .org domain owners. Many of them have websites that they have used for years. If price caps are removed, the cost to renew their domain names may become too expensive, and they could be forced to give up websites that are important to them. The Uniform Rapid Suspension policy is too new and untested to apply on domain names that may be 20 years old or more. With the URS, the domain names could be taken down in a matter of days with little notice. ICANN should be doing more to protect owners of .org domain names. Why is ICANN trying to remove price protections for .org domain owners, so many of which are non-profits, so that they can be overcharged for their domain names? Removing the price cap will make it harder for individuals, students, and small businesses to get a web presence in this continually connected world. We need to keep the web an open place by keeping it financially accessible.

Affordable pricing for .org TLDs is essential for non-profit organizations where funds are limited and should be directed toward beneficial charitable program work instead of covering increasing operating costs. Please consider carefully any price increases and also the proposed lifting of price caps for .org TLDs. Reading about this has made me mad. Its another veiled attack on freedom of expression by this administration. This will silence voices without deep pockets and allow bad actors to take over existing, established and legitimate outlets. Organized campaigns to steal organizations of their .ORG domain names will ensue either because of the tremendous commercial value or for political reasons. Stop this insanity now Telling the .org registry that it can charge any price it wants for renewing a domain name is a terrible idea. Why would you allow them to set a crazy high price? They could try to force the domain owners to pay a very high price each year to renew their domain name, and if the domain owner either won't or can't, then the .org registry could take away their domain name, set a high registration price on it, and then try to find someone else who is willing to pay a high price for it. This is very unfair to long time .org domain owners who may see their prices raised sky high for no reason. You let the new domain extensions charge any price they want, but that hasn't gone so well. Lots of people got burned when the new registries offered low rates for the first year, and then after people registered the domain names and some built web sites on them, some of the prices were raised through the roof. .Org has been working just fine for decades where the prices maybe go up a little bit each year. Allowing huge price increases from one year to the next could ruin .org for everybody. I think you should pay a little more attention to what is good for the owners of .org domain names. The registries are doing fine. They don't need your help as they are already making plenty of money.

Greetings, As the founder of an organization within an online video game, I chose a .org TLD as I felt it would be a better suited option over a perhaps less trustworthy domain like .xyz or .space for example. While I accept that I’m a very small and insignificant player in this whole discussion (I’ve read comments left by executives and CEOs), I feel that subjecting price hikes on owners like myself and the multitudes of owners all across the world with .org, .biz. and .info TLD’s would be a poor decision that while profitable in the long run, would end up pushing more and more players like myself out of the space as prices spiral ever higher until eventually these TLD’s are deemed unprofitable by even the biggest players in the space. Please reconsider this decision and seek out a revenue generating alternative. All the best, Joel F.

Hello, My domain name provider recently informed me that you intend to remove price caps on all .org domain names. I am writing to protest this move. If you implement this change you will cripple our small business website as we will not be able to afford to pay 10 times as much for our current domain name reclaimdesign.org (which Namecheap suggest could happen). Our business is just run by my husband and myself. We do not overcharge for our products or implement insane price hikes. We would ask you please to consider the same. My opinion is that the proposed renewal of .org registry agreement is a bad idea. I believe that when there is no guarantees as to whether the domain name will be affordable in the future, organizations and individuals will be reluctant to buy domain names and have an online presence. I'm a student and I own a .org domain name and use it for my personal website and my e-mail. Having an e-mail under my own domain name gives me the power to choose any e-mail servers I find suitable without changing my e-mail address. As a student with very little income, the domain name is only affordable to me at current prices and if I have no guarantee that the pricing won't skyrocket in a year or two, I would have to reconsider if I need a domain or not given the risk of giving it up due to high prices and someone else taking it over. It is my request to reject this proposal because I strongly believe that organizations will choose to not have an online presence than having their online identity taken up by someone else because they don't have the resources to continue using it. For existing organizations using a .org domain, giving it up means that giving up their whole online identity. So they will have no other choice than to pay higher fees to continue operating.
