I also noted yesterday in the discussion on this paper in the CC that this is a white paper, not a position paper, and I think that is important to note. Further, in our Council/Board/Senior staff breakfast, and in other discussions, on the topic of "expanding the names space", it was clear that first we need to regain management of the process related to the introduction of new gTLDs. In my view, this white paper can be temporarily put on hold, while the priority of reassuming our role in the process, especially working with the ccNSO, and as needed, with the ASO, and the SSAC. I think we must address establishing the cross SO work approach, begin to identify the work, and what kinds of information and even outside experts are needed. Also, yesterday, as a point of information, in the Cross Constituency, we received an offer from the SSAC chair, that some of the Constituencies might wish to participate in a discussion related to the "expansion of the names space". I asked today whether he might be available to discuss some considerations. I wonder if other Councilors [and their interested members ] might wish to join in a conference call if we are able to schedule this. It would be an informal discussion, scheduled at a time other than a Council meeting, and entirely optional.
