We now have a third name as a volunteer to serve on the Public Participation Committee public session panel, Avri. Please note her responses to the questions below and feel free to respond. I will forward any responses to her. Ok, quick answers - i fly tomorrow and am flat out: "a) What are the three most important improvements ICANN can make to its public participation processes to facilitate greater engagement by developing world stakeholders? funding outreach capacity building b) Should ICANN incorporate a greater focus on the developing world in its work and if so, how? yes. One major improvement would be to include the issue of TLDs applications process and capacity building geared toward that the Developing world. As it stands currently, support of developing nation applicants is not only an afterthought, it is excluded from the consideration. c) How can the work of ICANN be given greater relevance where there is low Internet density per capita - and what priority should be given to reaching stakeholders in countries with the lowest Internet connection density? (see the World Bank statistical link under "Materials and References" below to look up statistical information of the kind referenced)." ICANN can solve all problems. The problem of access in not in ICANN's purview, as important as that issue is.. There are however, a sufficient number of developing regions that have sufficient connection density that still do not have the TLD, especially the IDN TLDs their population need for the the Internet to become an integral part of their lives.
The main purpose I am asking for this is to allow Councilors to interact with potential panel members before next Wednesday. Because the request came so late, this is about the only way to provide some input to whoever is on the panel from the GNSO.
Not sure yet how we will select who will be on the panel.
No worries. Just figured I would throw my name into to the pot.
Chuck
