hi Volker, i agree, this couldn’t replace the big meetings yet (although i hope it can in my lifetime). but i’d be really interested to try this for some of the smaller inter-sessional meetings that are often foregone because it’s just too expensive to get people together. one of the things that intrigues me about a gizmo like this is the integration of the virtual environment with VoIP conversations. i would die and go to heaven if ICANN had something like this available and we could learn how to use it effectively in our work. note the tricky word “effectively” in there — i have no idea whether there are show-stoppers in terms of connectivity or privacy or language. but the possibilities for “almost as good as face to face meetings, without the cost/pain of travel” strike me as worth pursuing.
