REMINDER: Meeting B [Policy Forum] Helsinki - topics for discussion
It would be really great to get everyone's input here. From: owner-council@gnso.icann.org [mailto:owner-council@gnso.icann.org] On Behalf Of Austin, Donna Sent: Tuesday, 29 March 2016 6:34 AM To: council@gnso.icann.org Subject: [council] Meeting B [Policy Forum] Helsinki Last Thursday Volker and I attended a call, hosted by Chris Disspain from the Board, to start planning for Meeting B (Policy Forum), in Helsinki in June. As a first step, we have been asked to, by 8 April 2016, identify a list of issues or topics that the GNSO would be interested in discussing at small or large cross-community sessions during the Helsinki meeting. It would seem that as a rough guide the afternoons will be assigned for cross-community engagement and the mornings will be made available for independent SO/AC work or bilateral meetings depending on requirements; however, the schedule will be developed once it is better understood what the respective requirements of all SOs and ACs. It is not expected that there will be a public forum, the Board will not meet with constituencies separately, ie no Constituency Tuesday, and no formal Board meeting. As discussed in Marrakech, there was support for the idea that the Policy Forum be used as an opportunity to progress policy development processes, namely: * PDP New gTLD Subsequent Procedures * PDP Review of All Rights Protection Mechanisms in all gTLDs * PDP on Next-Generation gTLD Registration Directory Service The Council could also use some of the time available in Helsinki to discuss workload prioritisation and working methods, but these are just suggestions. As we will need to inform Tanzanica King of our topics by 8 April, it would be useful if we could receive individual contributions by 5 April so that we can agree a consolidated list to provide to Tanzie on the 8th. We look forward to hearing from all of you on the issue of topics and issues you would like discussed in Helsinki. Thanks Donna Donna Austin: Neustar, Inc. Dear fellow councilors, we had some feedback on the registrar list asking for the other side of the policy coin not to be neglected at this meeting. Instead of only holding an update session on ongoing implementation work, some of the IRTs may also benefit from face to face time to advance their work. Specifically, theGnso-impl-thickwhois-rt was mentioned as a group that would potentially benefit greatly from such focus. Best, Volker Am 04.04.2016 um 20:42 schrieb Austin, Donna:

Hello Donna and Councilors, I agree with Volker on the recommendation to discuss Thick WHOIS and RDAP Initiatives. Specifically, ensuring the initiatives are aligned in such a way to minimize development overlap and remain absent of temporary work that would be required by contracted parties. Last Thursday Volker and I attended a call, hosted by Chris Disspain from the Board, to start planning for Meeting B (Policy Forum), in Helsinki in June.
As a first step, we have been asked to, by 8 April 2016, identify a list of issues or topics that the GNSO would be interested in discussing at small or large cross-community sessions during the Helsinki meeting.
It would seem that as a rough guide the afternoons will be assigned for cross-community engagement
We should be able to plan a longer (2-3 hours) meeting with the GAC, on GNSO collaboration issues (the working group). In my view general meetings with GAC and GNSO have been falling too short
and the mornings will be made available for independent SO/AC work
VERY GOOD! Type B meetings should be geared to replace the myriad of f2f meetings
or bilateral meetings depending on requirements; however, the schedule will be developed once it is better understood what the respective requirements of all SOs and ACs.
It is not expected that there will be a public forum, the Board will not meet with constituencies separately, ie no Constituency Tuesday, and no formal Board meeting.
As discussed in Marrakech, there was support for the idea that the Policy Forum be used as an opportunity to progress policy development processes, namely:
* PDP New gTLD Subsequent Procedures
1 full morning
* PDP Review of All Rights Protection Mechanisms in all gTLDs
1/2 morning
* PDP on Next-Generation gTLD Registration Directory Service
1/2 morning
The Council could also use some of the time available in Helsinki to discuss workload prioritisation and working methods,
In CCT Review we are at least trying to use some collaborative tools (Slack), but keep relying on staff for time planning. May be of interest.
but these are just suggestions.
Thanks
Donna
