Hi all, Attached is an updated draft GNSO Council response to the ICANN Board's 14 November letter concerning the EPDP, and specifically requesting an update on possible back-up plans. I previously circulated a draft on 26 December and received one request to avoid enumerating any specific back-up plan considerations. I have removed those in the attached letter, other than where we refer to the EPDP Initial Report language. I also added some other general text. Rafik, Pam and I are all in agreement this letter is ready to go. I plan to send this before the end of the week to ensure it is received before the EPDP WG meets F2F next week. We are late in our response to Cherine and the Board, so please review this ASAP. I will send COB Thursday. Thanks for your attention! Best, Keith

While I have no objections to the letter being sent, I do think this letter paints a very rosy picture of the progress that the EPDP Team has made, and I worry that there is the potential for the Council to suffer embarrassment in the future if the EPDP Team is not successful in meeting its work plan. I happen to think that is probable, not possible. Best wishes, Ayden ‐‐‐‐‐‐‐ Original Message ‐‐‐‐‐‐‐ On Wednesday, January 9, 2019 3:02 PM, Drazek, Keith via council <council@gnso.icann.org> wrote:

Hi Ayden, Thanks for your reply. I share your concerns and expect the Council will need to get involved later this month if/when it becomes apparent the EPDP WG will not meet the projected timeline. To that end, we all need to be working with our respective SGs and Cs to prepare for a “Plan B” discussion during our F2F in Los Angeles. In the interest of time, those conversations should be happening now, and over the next two weeks, so our Council-level discussion is appropriately informed by SG/C views. We will need to act expeditiously and won’t be able to wait until the late-February Council meeting if a course-correction or temporary alternative path is necessary. Hi Keith and all, May I suggest a tiny factual correction. The letter says the F2F takes place in Toronto on 14-16 January (?), but I think it’s 16-18 January. Thanks! Tanya On Thu 10. Jan 2019 at 17:59, Drazek, Keith via council < council@gnso.icann.org> wrote:
