Reserved Names and String Similarity - Oct 9 Extraordinary Meeting
Dear Councilors, Attached are slides prepared for the October 9 Extraordinary Meeting regarding the Reserved Names issue currently before the Council. These are provided now to assist you in discussing the issue presented with your Cs and SGs. Please be aware that there is also a possible third alternative under discussion which has not yet been accepted on the Council list. The current draft of a third alternative is shown below and may also be helpful for discussion purposes in your Cs and SGs. If a third alternative is seconded and finalized on the Council list, it will be forwarded promptly. Thank you for your attention to this matter. Anne *3. While the Council reserves its right to instruct an IRT on the proper implementation of Council and Board-adopted PDP Recommendations, the Council has determined, based on correspondence from the Board and in light of pressing time deadlines, that the IRT should refer adoption of Option 1 or Option 2 to a determination to be made by the ICANN Board in the exercise of its fiduciary duty. Dear Councilors, The third alternative mentioned below has been seconded. (Thank you, Lawrence) To clarify, the term "adoption" in the third alternative refers to Board adoption of the AGB, which is set to occur in Dublin. As noted by Lawrence, the Board has already clearly expressed in writing its preference for Option 2. *Thanks all.
