FW: GAC response - Reply to your letter of 26 August, regarding potential overlap
Dear All For your information, please find attached the response from the GAC to the letter from the GNSO and ccNSO Chairs in relation to the potential overlap between the CWG to develop a framework for the use of Country and Territory Names as TLDs (CCWG-UCTN) and the GAC Protection of Geographic Names Working Group. Best regards, Marika
Dear Marika, Thanks very much for circulating this correspondence. I can also confirm that it was discussed in the CWG meeting earlier this week, and while concerns were raised about the simple fact of two parallel (if not overlapping) efforts that might arrive at different definitions of "geographic name" and different policy treatment across those different definitions, there was general agreement that the letter is a good thing in terms of evidence that this issue is one of broader awareness within the GAC, including the Chair. Best wishes, Heather (GNSO co-chair of the CWG, with Carlos Raul Gutierrez as other GNSO co-chair) ________________________________ From: owner-council@gnso.icann.org <owner-council@gnso.icann.org> on behalf of Marika Konings <marika.konings@icann.org> Sent: Tuesday, November 17, 2015 6:33 To: Council Subject: [council] FW: GAC response - Reply to your letter of 26 August, regarding potential overlap Dear All For your information, please find attached the response from the GAC to the letter from the GNSO and ccNSO Chairs in relation to the potential overlap between the CWG to develop a framework for the use of Country and Territory Names as TLDs (CCWG-UCTN) and the GAC Protection of Geographic Names Working Group. Dear Colleagues, as Co-Chair of the ccNSO-GNSO WG on the Use of Country and Territory Names (UCTN), I would like to inform that during our last call we had a short discussion on this response. Personally I consider that it still leaves room for interpretation on possible overlaps. While I don´t think the 4 Co-chairs have discussed it to the point to ask the GAC for clarification, I still consider it useful to request some time during tomorrows call, under AOB maybe, to inform you on the issues at hand.
