There does seem to be a whiff of "swing one, swing all" about ICANN's decision. All that extensive lobbying by Ethos and PR people was evidently wasted and no doubt it will be spun, by these same lobbyists and PR people, as being a bad decision with ICANN caving in to state/country influence. In some respects, the US government surrendering oversight made an Ethos style approach/deal inevitable. It might have been a different outcome if it had been a recognised industry player making an offer.
