Request for feedback on Part 1 of the EPDP on IDNs Phase 1 Initial Report
All, On the CPWG call earlier (on 3 May, 13:00 UTC <https://community.icann.org/x/KolXDg>), Satish Babu and I tried to get through the *relevant slide deck <https://community.icann.org/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=240617770&preview=/240617770/240618303/20230502v2%20IDNs-EPDP%20ppt%20for%20CPWG%203May2023.pdf#PDPs-85440982>*, but we ran out of time from taking questions off the floor on some parts of the deck. As the ALAC Team on the EPDP have to move on to presenting other parts of the Initial Report in future CPWG calls, we are asking for your inputs to this first batch of 26 Preliminary Recommendations and Implementation Guidance (of 68 in total).via the mail list. We have structured the slide deck to be more or less self-explanatory and we welcome input (indications of support or otherwise) and questions (which we can try to answer as best we can) on the 26 Preliminary Recommendations and Implementation Guidance contained therein. *In particular, we would appreciate input on Preliminary Recommendation 3.5 and Implementation Guidance 3.6 which appear on slide #13.* Thank you. Kind regards, Justine Chew
Dear Satish Babu and Justine Chew, Many thanks for the quick presentation @ CPWG on 3 May 2023. I carried forward the observations on Slide 4 and 8 to the APRALO meeting today - 4 May 2023. During the APRALO meeting, Satish Babu wanted some focus on Slide 13. Finding the perfect domain name is quite challenging for the applicant. More so, if it has to be multi-lingual. All of them should ideally be brandable and true to the branding. Hence most of this exercise is very likely to be internal to the applicant. Slide #13: PR3.5 and PR3.7 As Justine Chew was remarking technical and operational details need to be worked out. In theory, there is a high chance that the registry operators may not want to indulge on the requirement specifications being mooted. "Resilient" Systems approach may be more efficient and less demanding on the detail. I am planning to stop at three comments on three slides and request that the ICANN Confluence Wiki may be consulted for my earlier notes and references.
