Dear Olivier and all, first of all, I wish all of you and your families the very best for the upcoming year 2011! I guess, it's a difficult moment to start a community consultation on such an important and complex issue like the Strategic Plan, and I think we should concentrate on the input we have so far from Sébastien - what I endorse as well - and to accomplish it by Olivier's remarks that the ICANN Strategic Plan 2010- 2013 is on a right track but does not go far enough to "involve public participation" and to "develop At Large". As discussed in Cartagena and before, empowerment, capacity building etc. of the At Large community is crucial for any substantial participation in the ICANN policy development process. And in this context, regular regional F2F GAs are a necessary precondition ... I further agree with Olivier's remark on "ICANN needing to design risk assessment scenarios with regards to future domain name development as well as Internet Governance. ICANN is still driving in the dark with lights off, hoping not to fall into a pothole." Any further comments are appreciated! That's all fine, but do we have more comments about the presentations which Kurt Pritz showed in Cartagena? There are links to these PowerPoint slides on the page below.
Re: how little time we have to respond. This is the first year we are dealing with a new calendar. We are asked to get involved in the process earlier than usual, which is a good thing. But this year, the ICANN AGM took place really late, in December, so the comment period fell on a time when several of us were recovering from Cartagena, and we then had the Seasonal Break and in fact many are not even back from their break yet. I expect this to be different in next year's cycle.
