Dear all, To Olivier's point 1 below, I would add that we should also have time to allow the unsuccessful applicants to get support to run by petition. We all agree that we want elections whose outcome will not be challenged. We had already some remark on gender balance in the slate. We should expect remarks that the current slate is only composed of long time ICANN insiders, two of which are current ALAC members. Personally, I would rather wish that the process, including involvement of ALSes in the directed votes of the Chair and Euralo elected ALAC members, takes as much time as needed. That would add to the legitimacy of the process, even if that meant that the person would take his/her seat next year. OTOH, If we are hands tied by the bylaws regarding when the new board member has to be seated, so be it. But then, the At-Large community should make it clear that it did it under pressure. Dear European At Large Structures,
The ALAC has examined the EURALO letter which we have sent a few days ago, asking for an extension of the election process.
As a result, the ALAC has decided that ICANN Staff should convene an At Large Board Selection Design Team (ABSdt) meeting to discuss the extension of the deadline of the Board Director Vote.
This meeting, after an appropriate Doodle Poll of its Team members, will take place on Monday at 13:00 UTC.
Both Patrick Vande Walle and I are on the ABSdt.
I would therefore like to be advised on:
1. the rationale behind asking for 10 days of voting by EURALO ALSes 2. whether we would wish an "all or nothing" 30th November date, or whether we wish an extension which could be negotiated, and if so, what is the extension that would allow us to conduct a suitable election process in EURALO? 3. any other points which should be made clear and which we should insist on during the ABSdt call?
I have a pretty good idea of how to answer (1) - which is that our At Large Structures (ALSes) will be polled to determine what candidate Wolf Ludwig, EURALO Chair will vote for, and that we therefore need to give ALSes enough time to get informed about the candidates and to vote. Is this enough, or are there more arguments that we can use? As for (2) and (3), please email your suggestions ASAP.
Thanks,
Olivier
