If it can be of any interest, Best regards, Yuliya SUCCESSFUL EUROPEAN DATA PROTECTION HANDBOOK UPDATED AND TRANSLATED FRA and the Council of Europe have launched a new edition of their successful practical guide to European data protection law and made it available in four other languages at the European conference of data protection authorities in Strasbourg on 5 June. The first edition of the handbook proved so popular it was quickly out of print, while the online version got some 17,500 downloads. FRA and the Council of Europe therefore decided to update the content and make it available in more languages. It is now available in English, French, German, Greek and Italian. The English version of the handbook was first launched on 28 January 2014, on Data Protection Day. It was the first comprehensive guide to Council of Europe and European Union law on data protection, taking into account the case law from the European Court of Human Rights and the Court of Justice of the European Union. It explains how data protection is regulated under EU law as well as the Council of Europe Convention for the Protection of Individuals with regard to Automatic Processing of Personal Data, and other Council of Europe instruments. The second edition of the handbook covers the latest developments in the area of data protection, such as decisions related to the Data Retention Directive and the independence of data protection supervisory authorities. The handbook is aimed at non-specialist legal professionals, judges, national data protection authorities and anyone else who may be confronted with legal questions in the area of data protection. It covers issues such as data protection terminology; key principles and the rules of data protection law; data subjects’ rights and their enforcement; transborder data flow; and data protection in the context of police and criminal justice. Versions of the handbook in Bulgarian, Croatian, Danish, Dutch, Estonian, Finnish, Hungarian, Lithuanian, Latvian, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Slovak, Slovenian and Spanish will also be published later this year.
