Re: [EURO-Discuss] Board Selection process
Good morning: The attached draft press release will be issued imminently by ICANN. I received this overnight from CLO who has approved it. It is on the agenda for today's EURALO call. I have already queried the deadline of 21 August which is too short. That will no doubt now be changed. In other respects I can agree to the text. A little bit crazy: The press release is Agust 17 and the dateline August 21. Wonderful time for broader outreach ;-(((((. wolfgang ________________________________ Von: euro-discuss-bounces@atlarge-lists.icann.org im Auftrag von Christopher Wilkinson Gesendet: Di 17.08.2010 15:20 An: EURALO LIST Betreff: Re: [EURO-Discuss] Board Selection process Good morning: The attached draft press release will be issued imminently by ICANN. Hello Wolfgang, I am in agreement - and hope that there will be an extension. That said, the original call was made on 23rd July 2010: http://www.icann.org/en/announcements/announcement-3-23jul10-en.htm It is surprising that this original call doesn't appear to have made it into a widespread press release... or has it? There was an announcement on the ICANN page, but as a sidebar not a featured item. And the announcement was made after the call for SOIs began. It wasn't mentioned in the blog or other usual places (I asked about this on the ALAC internal list.) The process for submitting SOIs also seems a little awkward: either big pulse or via a PDF form (which you can't edit... I sent a text file of the SOI, but that hasn't appeared anywhere.) Good evening (19.15): Having been dropped from the call just now, here are the key points: 1. WL letter to the List: OK but let us wait until the Press Release is out for the deadlines etc. 2. ICANN Press Release: I am sure that the staff +CLO will extend the deadline. I have proposed 6 September. 3. Candidates: there are several steps: (a) encourage qualified people to present SoI, including gender balance, youth, and people outside the inside group. (b) Does EURALO and our ALS want to comment/prioritise the list of all candidates at that stage? I am not quite sure whether the list of all candidates will be already public, when? (c) BCEC will prepare a short list (3-7 names) (d) ALAC+RALO Chairs will vote on the BCEC shortlist. Will EURALO and our member ALS have an opportunity to comment or prioritise the candidates at that stage? This depends on the outcome of the WL letter that we have in draft. 4. The general objective is that the election process will be complete by the December 2010 ICANN meeting. I would be glad to try and answer your questions or take forward your questions to the next BCEC conference call o 25 August. Regards CW On 17 Aug 2010, at 15:20, Christopher Wilkinson wrote:
