EURO-Discuss: Veronica Cretu (short intro)
Dear members of the EURO-Discuss list! Greetings from Chisinau, Moldova! I am sending, as it has been suggested, a very short intro and a short statement of interest in ALAC. Short Intro Veronica Cretu is the President of the "CMB" Training Center, Chisinau, Republic of Moldova. "CMB" Training Center is a non-governmental organization the mission of which is promoting Innovations in Communication, Management and Business. Mrs. Cretu has founded this NGO back in 2002 has been successfully running it until now. Mrs. Cretu holds a Postgraduate Diploma in Diplomacy, with DiploFoundation, Malta and her first degree is in English Philology, with the State Pedagogical University of Moldova. Along with the activities at the "CMB" Training Center in Moldova, Mrs. Cretu is currently involved in the Internet Governance Capacity Building Program with DiploFoundation. She has been acting as an online tutor and online research supervisor in this Program since 2005. Mrs. Cretu's areas of expertise are: Project Management, Human Resources Management and Adult Education. Mrs. Cretu's current areas of interest are: The role of IT in Diplomacy, The Multi stakeholder partnerships in ICT for All, The Evolution and further development of the Internet and the Role of IGF, Ways of improving literacy and educational facilities as a means of reducing the digital divide and improving accessibly in the developing countries, Promoting Multilingualism and Cultural Diversity on the Internet, Role of E-education in Promoting Access to Knowledge in the Developing Countries. Interests in ALAC: I would like to help to get internet end users - especially of developing countries - involved in ICANN decision making processes, to strengthen civil society in Eastern Europe and considering civil liberties in setting up IT-infrastructure, promoting multilingualism and cultural diversity on the Internet and support competition in Domain market. I am willing to do outreach work in Eastern Europe and think that the fact that I am fluent in Romanian, English and Russian is very helpful in doing so. I am committed to ALAC-ICANN goals and bylaws and consider consensus decision making as very important for the committee-work. I attended two ALAC outreach meeting (Prague and Athens last year). For more information you can contact me at VeronicaC@diplomacy.edu/ Skype: veronicaretu. Thank you for your time! All,
this is the current status of nominations. The people who did not accept or reject yet are kindly expected to do so as soon as possible. (Wolfgang - you wrote that both Veronica and Desiree accepted, but I find it hard to vote for someone who has never sent a single message to this mailing list - could you please encourage them to join the list and send a message of acceptance and self-introduction?)
For the rest, I would follow Annette's suggestion and start the discussion on the two slates of candidates and on the number of Board members. In the revised schedule, voting was expected to start on April 29th but let's see how the discussion goes - if the discussion is still alive and productive, I'm also fine with waiting until May 5th for the vote.
By the way - assuming that all nominations are accepted, we now have eight candidates for the Board. If we agreed that whoever is not elected for the ALAC is added to the Board, we could have a 9-member Board and the two ALAC members, not reject anyone's desire to contribute, and only have to vote (if necessary) once. What would you think of this?
Regards,

So, there is actually not much of a difference and individual users have the choice between joining an ALS or the amorphous group for individual users. Actually, this is not a model for individual participation, it just differentiates the structure already there. I would like to participate in an individual capacity.
I think that you could interpret Patrick's proposal in a way that might be more suitable to you: instead than the 50 people electing among themselves one representative to the GA (which, by the way, is more or less what the NARALO is doing to incorporate individual user representation: they will have two GA representatives per ALS plus two GA representatives of individual NARALO members no matter how many there are), each individual EURALO member could get 1/50 = 0.02 votes in the GA. Then you would have a non-integer vote count, but each individual would still be able to cast a personal vote directly.
For the rest, I support the point that this is just for voting - participation in discussions happens at the individual level anyway.
P.S. Why aren't we having this discussion on the -discuss list? The ALS list should be for communication to ALSes only, and anyway I've already seen two non-ALS-representatives on this list as well, so I guess that the set of participants is the same.
I'm joining Vittorio's statement above. It clearly gives individuals the right to vote and participate. Individual user of the Internet are welcome as they are also welcome in most of the ISOC Chapters. They also can raise their voice as well as they may have voting rights.
In order to avoid continue debating in stead of helping individuals in what they expect we should do, we could already think about the near future once we have voted en elected the necessary members. Proposal issue : what would be the most urgent topic to be considered and handled by the EURALO board ?
As Vittorio mentioned also, I'm posting this message on the Euro-discuss list.

The proposed procedure (with nine board EURALO members) is fine for me. I am leaving for the A2K and CFP conferences in NY and Montreal tomorrow and will be back on Friday, May 4. .
I didn?t know that Verinice and Desiree did not send any message to the EURALO list.Prpobably they are not subscribed. I will send immediately them a message to reply.
Regards
wolfgang
