MAPPING event arround Internet Governance, Privacy and IPR
Hi all, We are involved with ApTI in am EU project that just started, called MAPPING which aims to discuss issues related to three areas - IPR, Privacy and Internet Governance. The first public event will be held in Rome, on 20-21 May 2014 and will be structured as a forum for informed discussion. It will be opened by a session on “On-line mass surveillance, security and privacy: is an international treaty the only way forward?” After this session, there will be three half-day thematic sessions aimed at mapping the emerging and most contentious issues in the three areas of Internet Governance, Privacy and Intellectual property rights with a focus on discussing viable pathways for remedies and solutions. Each session will feature a facilitated discussion among the participants, introduced by one or more key-note speeches. We've insisted that the civil society be active in these sessions, as one of the key stakeholders on all these aspects, so now they have also asked me to help them with some names. So - would you be interested to participate drop me and email off-list and I'll send you more details and a formal invitation. The organisers told me that they could potentially also cover the expenses for a few participants from the civil society, so let me know if you are interested in that and we'll see what we can do Best regards -- Bogdan Manolea Director Executiv Asociatia pentru Tehnologie si Internet - ApTI +40 721 205 603 www.apti.ro
Dear Bogdan and all, thanks for sharing this info on the EU project and MAPPING event in Rome around subjects like IPR, Privacy and Internet Governance what sounds interesting. And thanks of course for your insistence on more active involvement of civil society (what always needs reminders while still not taken for granted at the EUC ;-). On the other hand, this always turns up as a question of capacities and funding (travel subsidies at least) for most of civil society orgs., as you fairly know. I put your info and "invitation" on the agenda for tomorrow's EURALO monthly call to ask and discuss who might be interested. Maybe we can find somebody who could participate at the Rome event on behalf of EURALO (-- or his/her own ALS)? I will keep you updated on any interests or options by the end of this week (based on the assumption that the organizers "could potentially also cover the expenses for a few participants from the civil society"). Kind regards, Wolf Bogdan Manolea /ApTI wrote Mon, 14 Apr 2014 15:25:

Maybe Stefano Trumpy, or somebody else from Italy, for whom the travel cost would be lower, could attend? R.
