For years I have been fighting for giving times according to international standards and not in petty local times, whether this would be any US time zone or European or other, I don't think that we have to go back to the old way. Fine if the petty local time is given in addition, but in no way in replacement of UTC. EU goes from the Açores Islands, through Portugal, Central Europe, Eastern Europe, all the way to the French DOM-TOM and UK territories in the Pacific Islands. Sorry to chime in in this way but I have to admit that this hits an emotional nerve in me, and I apologize in advance for the rude way I am expressing it. Cheers, Roberto

Hello Roberto, I think that's what Annette meant: the time should be given in UTC at all times, but it would also be helpful if in addition to that, there was a mention of CET (in brackets, for example). This is how it was announced back in October: "This is to remind you that the next EURALO teleconference is scheduled for Tuesday, 19 October 2010 at 16:00 UTC / 18:00 CEST" (of course back then it was CEST - summer time & now it's CET = UTC+1) Best wishes, Olivier Le 12/01/2011 23:02, Roberto Gaetano a écrit :

Hi, As a member of ISOC-Finland (though I am rarely there, unfortunately), which is on a time other than CET/CEST I find this an opportune time to mention that there is more than one time zone in Europe. I know it is a terrible presumption on my part, but in another context - just yesterday in fact, I mentioned that I thought it was important the everyone know their own displacement from UTC. It is a small thing to do at the edge of time where most individuals live, but a challenging task for the people in the center of time, where the staff lives, to do - so many opportunities to make a mistake, especially at those times of year when time changes. Also for anyone using google calendar, it alows you to have two time zones set, I have set one time zone to UTC. I also have one of the calendars on my laptop set to UTC, well not really - it is set to Reyjavik - which as I understand is always at UTC. a.
