Off-topic, but not so much
I will attend the ICANN Studienkreis in Sofia at the end of this month (http://www.icann-studienkreis.net/). After that, I am planning to travel in Albania and the southern countries of the former Yugoslavia. I will be somewhat constrained in time, but if there will be the opportunity to meet with the local Internet communities, I would love to do it. To the best of my knowledge, there's no ALS over there (please correct me if I am wrong) but I would appreciate if someone has contacts. Cheers, Roberto
Hi Roberto, I guess some of us will meet at the Studienkreis meeting in Sofia soon again. Regarding your subsequent plans and questions: You are right, we have no ALS in this region (the Greek ALS was decertified recently). However, a good contact and reference point for the southern countries of former Yugoslavia is DiploFoundation in Belgrade and Vladimir Radunovic <vladar@diplomacy.edu> who may be helpful. Some of the foundations of German political parties have offices (and good people) in the region and conducting interesting programs there. The two I know best are: - Böll Foundation http://www.boell.de/en/regions/europe and - Konrad-Adenauer-Foundation (KAS) http://www.kas.de/wf/en/71.4785/ with a field office in Albania -- see: http://www.kas.de/albanien/ (I know you understand German pretty well ;-) See you soon in Sofia and good luck! Roberto, May I suggest you to contact Desiree Milosevic regarding [former] ISOC chapters and/or possible ALSs in the region. She's from Belgrade, Serbia, former Yugoslavian capital. She surely has contacts in the region. Roberto Great to hear that you'll be travelling to Alabania as well to some countries of former Yugoslavia. I am more than happy to put you in touch with some local communities like the ISOC Belgrade Chapter www.isoc.rs, a potential ALS from the region. We've been discussing our application for quite some time and if we had any capacity to participate in the ALS processes meaningfully. Also Share Foundation from Novi Sad do a great work in the region and outside the region and are organising an event in Belgrade during the last two days of the IGF in Istanbul if you could make it. I am currently in Croatia where there will be a regional event next weekend "Nothing will Happen" in Rijeka 21-24 with communities from old Yugoslavia: Macedonia, Croatia, Serbia and Bosnia, Slovenia but also Germany and Spain. Topics include community driven free wireless networks, public library, collaborative book writing but also politics and hacking. You would be most welcome to attend and I can send you details off the list or anyone to the list who's interested. If in Belgrade please stop by the open space I set up and co-founded in Belgrade www.oosm.org. Best Desiree -- On 16 Aug 2014, at 13:17, Eric Tomson <et@skynet.be> wrote:
