Dear WG members, This note is to inform you all that at its last meeting on 16 April, the GNSO Council approved the proposed amendment to our WG charter, without any modification to the language as proposed: http://gnso.icann.org/en/council/resolutions#201504. Thanks go to Susan Kawaguchi, our WG liaison from the GNSO Council, for proposing the motion and to Phil Corwin, our WG co-chair and GNSO Council member, for facilitating its passage through the Council process. Hello George and everyone, We have not received anything yet, though we remain hopeful that the GAC is on track with preparing its proposed response to our initial solicitation for feedback. Regarding the IGOs, we expect that they may need a bit of time to respond, since our list of questions was fairly long and specific. Nonetheless, we will be sure to inform the WG if we hear anything from either group before 29 April. Have we heard back from the IGOs or GAC yet? There's a meeting scheduled for tomorrow, but it's difficult to prepare when: (1) there's no agenda (or it's disclosed at the very last minute) (2) there's no new documents to review, etc. I note that ICANN Board meetings have their agenda published several days in advance (might be a mandatory rule). It need not be so formalized for this PDP, but I think most folks need time in advance to prepare for conference calls, given they have their "day" jobs too (or family commitments), beyond this working group. I think calls are far more productive if members have sufficient time to spend reviewing and contemplating the materials well in advance of the calls. As mentioned previously, this may not be surprising especially as the set of questions to the IGOs is fairly lengthy and specific while our understanding is that the GAC continues to work on a response to our request for input. On the meeting agenda, we will try our best to circulate this to the WG shortly - this has been a topic that the co-chairs and staff have been discussing. Just FYI also that the GNSO WG Guidelines recommend that agendas ³ideally² be circulated at least 24 hours in advance (and I do recognize that we don¹t always meet that goal!) That's disappointing that they have yet to participate in our work. Perhaps they're content to delay, given that some of the IGOs are already protected via the ICANN Reserved Names List -- by delaying the work of this group, they potentially perpetuate the existence of that list (for which many of the reserved names are difficult to justify, in my view). This note is to inform you all that at its last meeting on 16 April, the GNSO Council approved the proposed amendment to our WG charter, without any modification to the language as proposed: http://gnso.icann.org/en/council/resolutions#201504. Thanks go to Susan Kawaguchi, our WG liaison from the GNSO Council, for proposing the motion and to Phil Corwin, our WG co-chair and GNSO Council member, for facilitating its passage through the Council process.
Also, please note that the next WG meeting is being scheduled for Wednesday 29 April 2015, at the usual time of 1600 UTC. The GNSO Secretariat will send out the usual notice and calendar invitations shortly, and the co-chairs/staff will send out a suggested agenda before the call as well.
