Thanks for drafting this Fabien, The scope of the analysis displays the "choke points" rather well. What also might cause delays is, if a Registrar is required to obtain "registrant" consent. Like we determined on the call this is a moving target and the further we move in the future we might encounter changed dynamics. Has the subject of organizing this entire thing already been discussed ? Getting all Registrars ready might be a challenge also. Missing deadlines, Registrars that cannot be reached or simply do not reply, there are tons of factors here that might slow things down. Dear IRT Members,
In our meeting on 13 January 2016, we further discussed need to conduct data analysis to better understand the type of challenges we may face when transitioning existing registrations in .COM, .NET and .JOBS from thin to thick Whois.
It was agreed among IRT participants that we should reach out to the Registrar Stakeholder Group (RrSG) and assemble a team of volunteers to conduct such analysis. We would like to confirm that this topic will be on the agenda of the RrSG meeting in Marrakech during ICANN 55. We will provide more details when available.
Additionally, as discussed during our IRT meeting, we have drafted a scoping paper for this analysis (attached). We are targeting to forward this paper to the RrSG on Monday 1 February. In the meantime, we would like to request you review this paper and share your edits by this Friday 29 January COB in your time zone.
Please note that the scoping paper needs your input in the following sections:
* Scope of analysis * Thick Whois Data Requirements * Next Steps and Expected Timeline
Thank you in advance for your time.
Best Regards
-- Fabien Betremieux Sr. Registry Services & Engagement Manager Global Domains Division, ICANN
