Hello, I am Mike Rodenbaugh. I run a small law and consulting firm near San Francisco, and have focused on trademark, domain name and copyright issues since 1995. I was active on the GNSO Council, as a leader of the Business Constituency, from 2006-2010 as the New gTLD Program principles and AGB were developed. I served on about a dozen new gTLD working groups during that time and since. More recently I have assisted several dozen gTLD applicants in a variety of contexts through the various stages of the application, dispute resolution and delegation processes. Like Tony, I fear interminable delay to further release of more new TLDs, as there are vested interests against them. But on the other hand, the program ought to have a fair review and improvements should be made before a next round is opened. Clearly there have been problems in this round that need to be fixed so that future applicants have more transparent and predictable processes. I look forward to working with everyone to ensure that happens reasonably soon. Hi everyone, I’m looking forward to participating in this group and appreciate all of the introductions via email so we can move into meaningful conversations on our call! I’m Jen Wolfe and it’s a pleasure to meet you all. Within the ICANN environment, I am the North American Nom Com Appointee to the GNSO Council, have been involved in several working groups and am currently chairing the GNSO Review Working Party. In my professional life, I run a digital brand strategy advisory firm and have been working with leading global brands to not only navigate the gTLD application process, but build out business strategies and roll out plans for using the dot brand as a critical asset as part of holistic digital strategy integrating the online experience with the mobile and social experience. I drafted many brand gTLD applications, built financial models for the gTLDs for Fortune 500 companies and have a strong understanding of the policy and logistics involved in the process. Prior to starting my digital strategy firm, I built the largest woman owned intellectual property law firm in the U.S. with clients like P&G, Microsoft, Duke Energy, Scripps Networks, Kraft Foods, etc. and prior to that worked in marketing for a publishing company. Although I generally no longer practice law, I am licensed in New York and Ohio. I have also written two books, Domain Names Rewired (on the new gTLd impact on brands) and Brand Rewired (future of branding in a digital world), both featuring interviews with executives from leading brands and co-authored with the former US Commissioner of Trademarks. I am the Click Z columnist for gTLDs and guest contribute to many other digital marketing publications. I am nationally accredited in public relations and have a black belt in six sigma process improvement methodology. I’m looking forward to learning from all of you and sharing my perspective to help shape future rounds of gTLD applications. Thank you for the opportunity to introduce myself. Hello everyone, I am long term member of the ICANN community having attended ICANN Montevideo (10) as my first meeting, so well over 40 meetings under my belt at this stage. I have been active in BC policy development, leadership, working groups, and am currently the Chair of the Standing Committee on Improvements Implementation (SCI), which was created to smooth improvement implementation from the last GNSO Review, five years ago. I have also had experience in launching a new TLD with .TRAVEL, and was an active participant in the development of the current Guidebook. Clearly, despite all of the genuine effort that went into the AGB, it has many shortcomings... The work ahead of this group needs to address all of those shortcomings and related issues from all stakeholder positions, as I see it. Hi all My name is Susan Payne and I am Head of Legal Policy at Valideus, supporting applicants for over 120 new gTLD registries, all of whom are owners of global brands. I'm also currently secretary of the NTAG. Prior to joining Valideus earlier this year, I worked for a UK media company and was one of the team managing its application for a dotBrand, as well as being responsible for the protection of the company's brands across the new TLDs at the second level. I would like to see some of the lessons from the first round actually addressed and in particular a recognition that one size does not fit all and is not the most efficient way to proceed either for applicants or ICANN staff. Looking forward to working with you all. Hi All My name is Donna Austin and I currently work for ARI Registry Services. I also represent dotShabaka Registry in the RySG. I have been involved in ICANN on and off since 2001 and have a reasonable understanding of ICANN and its processes as a result. My involvement or interest in this Group is similar to that expressed by Craig and Jon: that the work that comes out of this group creates a much more predictable, transparent, accountable and timely process for any future rounds of new gTLDs. There are many lessons to be learnt from the current round: we should be able to identify the things that worked, those that didn't, areas that could be improved and most importantly chart a course to guide ICANN for future rounds. I am pleased to participate as well and absolutely agree with Craig that any subsequent round should be more predictable, timely and accountable. There is much to learn from the mistakes of the current round. Best, Jon Jonathon Nevett Co-Founder & EVP, Donuts Inc. On Jul 29, 2014, at 8:53 AM, "Craig Schwartz" <craig@ftld.com> wrote:
