Dear Drafting Team Members,
Staff has taken the liberty of putting in some initial thought into the different TLD types discussion. Utilizing the various types of TLDs that the WG identified early on, we’ve tried to extract the attributes of these types. The thinking is that by identifying attributes, that may help us to identify commonalities, as well as to help determine if special considerations (e.g., during application submission, evaluation, registry agreement, etc.) would be warranted.
When you have the opportunity, hopefully you can review the attributes identified in the first tab of the Google doc found at the bottom of this group’s Wiki page: https://community.icann.org/x/YKLRAw
You’ll see on the Wiki that there were some anticipated deliverables for this group. I highlighted in red where I think we are:
· A matrix that pinpoints the specific characteristics of the categories
· At least at a high level, the related changes to the application process, evaluation criteria, and contractual requirements that would likely be necessary and perhaps unique to certain categories/characteristics.
· Any enforcement mechanisms that may be needed as a result of establishing different paths to obtaining a new gTLD.
· A recommendation as to whether the creation of applicable categories is necessary or whether the unique aspects of those categories can be handled through the existing processes.
Staff welcomes and encourages discussion on this topic. We are also available to assist this effort, so please do let us know how we may be of service.
Best,
Steve
