Standalone provider
I have been trying to remember the URL for one, and there it was in a slide at this morning's law enforcement sessions. It was an example, not a suggestion that the company is a possible target. www.privacyprotect.org<http://www.privacyprotect.org> Don ]
This service is offered in connection with registrations from at least one accredited registrar, as a free add-on service. http://publicdomainregistry.com/privacy-protection/ That is not what I think of as a standalone service. I don't know whether the service is owned or controlled by a registrar but perhaps someone else on this list does. "Privacy Protection is a WHOIS privacy service for domain name owners that we provide through our partners." http://privacyprotect.org/about-privacyprotection/ So perhaps some of those partners are accredited registrars. That’s just the result of a simple google lookup but here is one: http://www.esqwire.com/Page/Domain-Escrow-Service/44/ And I am sure plenty other law firms provide this service, but they may not advertise it on their website. On its face the page to which Luc links does not describe a proxy registration service but an escrow account for holding payments. -----Original Message----- From: Luc SEUFER [mailto:lseufer@dclgroup.eu] Sent: Tuesday, October 14, 2014 6:58 PM To: Metalitz, Steven Cc: Don Blumenthal; gnso-ppsai-pdp-wg@icann.org Subject: Re: [Gnso-ppsai-pdp-wg] Standalone provider That’s just the result of a simple google lookup but here is one: http://www.esqwire.com/Page/Domain-Escrow-Service/44/ And I am sure plenty other law firms provide this service, but they may not advertise it on their website. Hi Steve, I realize that they provide an escrow service, but unless they have discovered a new locking method , I believe they are appointing themselves as registrant, thus qualifying as an independent provider. Luc

I missed the initial discussion, but was the question about an example of a p/p provider that is not also a registrar? If so, one example might be Katz Global Domain Trust: http://www.katzglobal.com/hosting/anonymous-domains.html. I think it's possible that they operate as a reseller -- I'm not sure about that -- but I've seen domain names with their WHOIS registered with more than one registrar, so if they do have a reseller affiliation, I don't think its exclusive. The "order" page for domain names is broken, but the home page implies that the order can be submitted via email.
