Hi All, Taking the advice of Lisa and Chuck, I spent time this morning re-reading the charter. One could argue that the core problem we need to solve is that the community feels the WHOIS system is broken and needs to be fixed. And that the PDP WG should “fix it" in a way that addresses the competing and diverse needs not only the ICANN community but the Internet community as a whole. Perhaps (or Indeed) this is a vast oversimplification... So…I’ll throw the following re-formulation out for discussion based on the above. You will notice the second paragraph is borrowed word for word from the Charter Mission and Scope Section. Not sure this adds much real value to the WG however, above and beyond what is already in the Charter. Thanks Alex Problem Statement The WHOIS Policy Review Team’s Final report, published in May 2015, concluded that "the current [WHOIS] system is broken and needs to be repaired.” The Next Generation Registration Directory Service (RDS) PDP Working Group has been tasked address this problem and will define policies associated a new and improved RDS that meets the needs of the existing and ever evolving global Internet. Specifically, the PDP WG is tasked with analyzing the purpose of collecting, maintaining and providing access to gTLD registration data and considering safeguards for protecting that data, determining if and why a next-generation Registration Directory Service (RDS) is needed to replace WHOIS, and creating policies and coexistence and implementation guidance to meet those needs.
