Hi Patrik, Thanks for putting this together. In London it did sound like the Wednesday of IGF (September 3, 2014) might work for many people as long as we take a break during lunch. It also sounded like August 31 (which I believe is “day -1”) was a possibility. And Aug 30 may be as well. All of these are subject to room availability in Istanbul, but would it be possible to add those as options in the poll? I would appreciate confirmation of September 6 and October 17 as being the next meeting dates. For those of us who have long longhaul trips, and are covering some of the costs from our own pockets, it is critical to get these dates confirmed as early as possible. An example of why - I have already booked my flights for Istanbul and Los Angeles, and the cost of changing flights to accommodate ICG will be in excess of US$1,000 for me... We are awaiting confirmation from ICANN staff that there is a room available in which we can meet on September 6 in Istanbul. That information should be forthcoming today I hope. As for October 17: We have several ICG participants who were not able to be present in London and who have not yet completed the doodle poll (I believe they are on holiday), so we don’t know if they can be present on September 6. In addition to choosing a date that maximizes the number of people who can meet in person in October, I think it’s also important that we not arrange things such that multiple participants miss all of the first three meetings. In a group like this, developing rapport in person is critical, I think. So if we can wait one more week to schedule the October meeting, that might provide time for us to gather information about that. (And if people disagree with this reasoning, please speak up.) Does that cause insurmountable problems for those on tight timeframes for travel scheduling, or can we live with the October decision getting made next week? Alissa, this is very reasonable reasoning ;-). Daniel Colleagues, for the record: I cannot make October 17th in person due to unavoidable prior commitments, as I have indicated in the doodle poll. I am 100% fine with that date being chosen due to the reasons Alissa put forward and the clear preference expressed by those who participated in the doodle poll. Commenting is not enough. You will have to fill out the poll. If you cannot do that somehow, take the dates from the spreadsheet, make your choices and send them to me. I will fill them in for you. But the best is if you do it yourself.

And I hate to say this, but practical as it is, the current Doodle system we are adopting has effectively no security. Given the list is archived publicly, anyone can locate the URL and edit it using the name of any of the people in the ICG, or indeed as the Emperor Charlemagne, if they were motivated to do so. I have an account with Doodle, and will be logged in when I enter or change things under my existing account, and I would encourage others to do so also. If another 'Narelle' appears, it is highly unlikely to have been me. Having an account improves the security significantly, but the system is still open to abuse. Let's hope our work won't be subject to this (or other) type of abuse. I recommend everyone set up an account with Doodle and use it, as these polls are tremendously helpful - until such time as we determine we need to do otherwise.
