This is just a quick note to bring you up to date on a couple of recent developments in the GNSO. In the December teleconference the Council proposed to consider forming two new working groups: 1. One to review the creation of a reserved words list for the top level and update the list for the second level for gTLDs Marilyn Cade and Chuck Gomes drafted terms of reference for consideration. 2. One to review the sunrise processes used by recent gTLDs and ccTLDs (e.g .eu) and determine whether a standardised process that is scalable for many new gTLDs is feasible. Kristina Rosette and Ute Decker drafted terms of reference for consideration. These are *not* policy development efforts; rather they're simply (short-term) explorations of the issues involved. If the Council concludes that there is a need for policy development, PDPs will be spun off later. Even so, the formation of such WGs has met with some opposition. In the teleconference today (18 Jan) the formation of the first of these WGs was approved. No decision was made on the formation of the second (sunrise) WG; that will be discussed for another 2 weeks and voted on in a special Council teleconference on 1 February. ____________________________________________________________________________________ We won't tell.
