Dear Vanda: I share your outlook on the role of staff in a largely volunteer organisation. I would also add that volunteers need to act to reduce their own workload. One way to do so is to learn to quickly identify issues that merit our intervention and gauge the level of intervention required to influence the outcome. I have always believed that the At-Large should choose its fights with more acute deliberation. Let's do some cherry-picking and look for issues with great impact. Then have the courage to slug it out for them. Exceso de trabajo
Yo acredito que el Staff existe para ayudar todos voluntarios en todas constituyentes y advisory grupos para reducir el exceso de trabajo de los voluntarios. Como ellos pueden hacerlo mejor?
a) Aumentar la intercomunicación entre los miembros del proprio Staff e de ellos con la junta ejecutiva de ICANN e las juntas de las SOs y ACs para permitir que comprendan perfectamente las diferentes misiones cada junta debe cumplir y actuar en tiempo para acelerar las tareas de los grupos voluntarios que ellos deben servir.
b) Con el crecimiento del Staff, para tratar de muchas cosas nuevas en ICANN, Yo personalmente siento en los nuevos miembros del staff una falta de comprensión y conocimiento acerca do que se pasa en otras áreas, como se fueran empleados de una corporación regular americana, sin ningún sentido de comunidad que, es, en verdad, a quien el Staff debía servir . ALAC Staff tiene mejor oportunidad de percibir el concepto de comunidad que otros, sin la misma oportunidad. A mi parece que no hay entrenamiento acerca de la filosofía de existencia de ICANN y de las ideas y principios que la comunidad ICANN he construido. Por lo tanto entrenar y reciclar los miembros del staff es mandatorio.

Work overload:
I do believe staff is there to help volunteers in all constituencies and advisory groups to reduce the work overload. How they can do better?
a) Improving the interconnection of staff members among themselves and the staff with the ICANN Board and the Boards of all SO + AC will allow them to better understand the different missions each one shall accomplish and act timely in other to accelerate their tasks with the community they shall serve.
b) With the growing of the staff to deal of several new activities I could feel a lack of understanding and knowledge of what is going on in other areas specially from staff new members, like them are just working for a corporation but have no sense of the community they are there to serve. ALAC staff has better chance to be in contact with the concept of community but others, without this opportunity, looks like there had no training step about the philosophy, the ideas and principles this community was built. So training and recycling staff members is mandatory.
