The EPDP team was based in previous works of the SubPro PDP and focused on filling gaps not addressed, applying their results to existing IDN gTLDs and to variant domains at the second level level. In November 2022, the Council approved dividing the team's work into two phases: Phase 1 covered the top-level gTLD definition and the variant management, while Phase 2 covers variant management at the second level level. In November 2023, the team presented the Final Report of Phase 1, which was approved by the Council and now awaits the consideration of the Board.
