Dear All, At the ICANN meeting in Singapore, the Geographic Regions Review Working Group gave a presentation to ALAC on its latest efforts to produce a Final Report on Geographic Regions in ICANN. The presentation can be viewed at http://singapore41.icann.org/meetings/singapore2011/presentation-geo-regions... The ICANN Geographic Regions Working Group also had its own meeting in Singapore ; the audio from that meeting can be found at http://singapore41.icann.org/node/24625 One of the provisional recommendations for the Geographic Regions final report is to allocate countries in regions as allocated by the Regional Internet Registries or RIRs. Currently there are 33 countries in the LAC region as recognized by ICANN. If the RIR structure was adopted for the LAC region, there would be 5 countries added to the LAC region from the European Region: * Netherland Antilles * Aruba * Falkland Islands * French Guiana * South Georgia & S.Sandwich Islands However, 9 countries from the LAC region would be removed from the LAC region to be added to the North American region: * Antigua & Barbuda * Barbados * Bahamas * Dominica * Grenada * Jamaica * Saint Kitts & Nevis * Saint Lucia * St. Vincent & the Grenadines Other possible provisional recommendations include introducing temporary or long term Special Interest Groups for groups of countries with shared interests such as Small Island States or Caribbean countries. Such Groups would not be part of the ICANN decision making structure, but could lobby for support of official representatives. Given the impact of the work being done by the Geographic Regions WG to LACRALO, it is important that comments be sent to the WG before the WG issues a final report. Kind Regards, Dev Anand Teelucksingh LACRALO Secretariat
