Dear LACRALO Community I wish to share some of my thoughts with you as I reflect on what transpired this week. Volunteerism can be described as one of the most selfless acts that we can become involved in. This is because it is usually be done for the greater good without selfish motives. Persons who are engaged in volunteerism are generally busy people who recognize the importance of giving back (at least this is the viewpoint of many of the volunteers that I know). It’s a sacrifice of love. It is therefore necessary to pay attention to how volunteers are regarded and treated. Here are some quotes from some well know persons that I have been reflecting on: “Every person can make a difference, and every person should try.” – John F. Kennedy “Life’s most persistent and urgent question is, what are you doing for others?” – Martin Luther King, Jr. “Volunteerism is the voice of the people put into action. These actions shape and mold the present into a future of which we can all be proud.” – Helen Dyer Over this week in particular, I have been pondering on conduct of certain members of the LACRALO Community and I have three lingering questions: “Do we appreciate the involvement and understand the importance of our volunteer community?” “Are we trying to build or break the community?” “As a community we agreed to Re-connect, Re-evolve and Re-impulse. When do we begin?” Claire
