As you all would know, I am unalterably opposed to directed voting whether at the RALO level or ALAC level in all At-Large matters. That said, Leon is without doubt a qualified candidate for the Board and deserves support.
All this aside, I believe the ALAC rule that gifts the vote of a NomCom-appointed elector to the RALO in which that person is domiciled if he/she becomes a candidate for the Board seat is wrong-headed.
The ALAC is keen to promote the muddle-headed fiction that a candidate for this seat cannot be self-interested. But the substantive result is that the rule fatally undermines the independence of action that an ALAC NomCom appointment intends and, wrongfully disenfranchises that elector.
So far as I'm concerned Leon has given a proxy to Fatima. As his proxy and trusting Leon would have voted for himself, Fatima is therefore obliged to vote for Leon. This is the only vote I would consider as 'directed' in this instance.
To elect and fill that Board seat, all other electors should cast their vote on the proposition that they consider and cast a vote for the candidate that elector considers as best-suited for the seat.
