Dear Colleagues,  I was tasked with bringing our various discussions of variants into harmony.  The IP gives the relevant sections as 6.3.1 and 6.3.2.  However, as nearly as I can see, the actual sections are 6.2.1 and 6.2.2.  So those are what I have addressed.  In addition, I volunteered to write an explanation of our position on imposed variants.  I have written this, together with revised explanatory text, for Section 6.3.1.7.  The proposed texts are attached.  Please let me know if you think they need further revision.
