Just to clarify: we are a part of the steering committee. Your feedback is welcomed On Sat, Mar 30, 2019 at 12:07 AM Nadira Alaraj <nadira.araj@gmail.com> wrote:
Thank you Farzi for taking the time to respond to many of my suggestions that I believe would provide better results to the community and to the MEAC-SIG as well. I understood that you are not part of the MEAC-SIG SC, hoping there is a listening ear so some of my suggestions would be adopted. Best wishes Nadira

Dear Nadira,
As I told you multiple times privately, I agree that students names should be published (should they opt for it). I asked for it last year, it was too late because we had not asked for it in the beginning. We are now prepared to design the application form in a way that they successful applications consent to publicize their names.
About the content of curricula: I agree that the Middle East IG community feedback is needed. This is why we have non-partners as part of the Steering Committee. However, the ICANN MEAC SWG is not the only community. We need to be aware of that. We, of course, consider your constructive criticism about term limits etc, but in the end, it is down to SC to decide how they want to proceed, how to publicize, whether to have a charter or not. We are not the DNS Policy Forum, we are not IGF nor a
As to receiving feedback from the region and us not being residents in the region, at IGP first of all we follow both regional and global IG issues very closely, from East Asia to the Middle East. I have myself a good network and the Steering Committee provides feedback on the design and suggests local speakers and faculty members and other community members can also recommend topics and faculty members but in the end it comes down to the steering committee to decide. I don't need to prove how engaged I am with the issues emerging in the region without residency in the region. Your point is taken but I believe the school is not an IGF nor a regional nor national IGF. Students need to know as much global issues as regional ones. After all we want to have a global Internet governance.
Hope this clarifies things. I am at your disposal should you have feedback on the curricula.

Dear Walid, Dear MEAC-SWG members,
Thanks to Walid for conducting this collegial process to select a representative to the MEAC-SIG EC.
Congratulations to the 57% members who voted and to all who offered to serve on the MEAC-SIG EC. Congratulations to Zakir.
Dear Zakir, now you're the voice of the community, not being a new EC member, it is important to make sure that the SIG curriculum does address the issues of the region. We would like to see more transparency of the selection process and to announce the name of participants after taking their concent publicly. So far the MEAC-SIG have been shy of announcing those accepted in the program. It gives the impression that what they are doing is something wrong.
To the MEAC-SIG organizers (Ines, Farzaneh and Salam) I'm listing you here because you're members of the MEAC-SWG. You had a good start of defining the task of EC but more work needed to be done. As Tijani has supported my proposal to have a limited number of terms for representatives from MEAC-SWG and SIG alumni to sit on the EC to get fresh ideas and to give the window to new community members to have an entrance for engagement. Another issue on EC members that need to be addressed to notice those members in both MEAC-SIG and MEAC-SWG and how to deal with them. Please, do consider to provide an advance curriculum every 5 years to bring SIG alumni beyond the IG basics.
To the 57% members of this list, where are you when you need your voice on actionable events? Soon there are the Read out session to be held, make sure to mark it on your calender when it is announced to make sure to attend and learn.
To the silent members, please do address your concern and needs to find solutions for your interest.
Regards to all, Nadira AL-Araj

Thank you Tijani for your kind words and for bringing up the issue of limiting consecutive terms.
This is something that is up to MEAC-SIG to consider more than it is an issue for MEAC-SWG but bringing in new people is always welcome of course. That is a good subject to tackle in future reforms we have in various activities conducted within ICANN.
Sincerely,
Walid

Thank you Walid for conducting this process.
I do congratulate Zakir and hope him the best in his mission and thank the other candidates for volunteering. It was a democratic process that I do appreciate. Nevertheless, I agree with Nadira that it needs a charter to define the number of consecutive terms, the minimum requirements, etc. to avoid having always the same people or people with no qualification for such work.
