If you hear about the "keys to the Internet," the topic usually relates to a very specific thing — a digital key that is used to verify the security of the Domain Name System (DNS). The concept of a master key that controls such an essential function sounds like it is lifted from spy novels. It has been the subject of many stories, television, and radio shows, that focus on the idea that seven people hold keys to the Internet. These fictionalized accounts, and some of the journalistic reporting, can overplay its significance. ICANN DNS Symposium | 5 September 2023 | Da Nang, Vietnam

Friends and Colleagues, The sixth Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) DNS Symposium (IDS 2023) will be held on 5 September 2023 in Da Nang, Vietnam. IDS 2023 will be co-located with "A Day of DNS Abuse Discussions" (4 September), also hosted by ICANN, and OARC 41 (6-7 September), hosted by DNS-OARC. The theme for IDS 2023 is "The integration of DNS with emerging technologies". IDS2023 will focus on the integration of DNS with emerging technologies, exploring the challenges and opportunities associated with this integration, including challenges related to security. The symposium invites researchers, developers, and operators to present on subjects including, but not limited to, blockchains, IoT, and novel uses of the DNS, such as IP-to-location translation, blocklists, and so on. We are soliciting proposals for presentations. Please send a one-paragraph description of your proposed topic to ids-proposals(a)icann.org by 14 August 2023.
