Friends and Colleagues, I am pleased to share with you a new ICANN Learn course entitled “Enhancing Your Listening Skills”. The ICANN community works hard to discuss and implement Internet governance policy by bringing people together from all over the world. In addition to the logistical challenges of communicating over a wide variety of technological tools such as chat, emails, conference calls, video conferencing, and in-person ICANN meetings, we also face communication challenges coming from different language and cultural backgrounds. Developing good listening skills is essential for everyone in the ICANN community, whether you are new and learning your way around the various Supporting Organizations and Advisory Committees or are a long-time ICANN volunteer now serving on the Board of Directors. This module, which is part of the three-part series, will focus on identifying typical listening barriers and applying several different methods for overcoming barriers to effective listening. Dear ME Space community, The ME Space will hold its session at ICANN 70 due to take place virtually from 22 to 25 March 2021. Therefore, we propose the following timeline for a good preparation of the session: 15/2 Call for topics (7 days) 22/2 Selection of the topic (1 day)  23/2 Call for volunteers for the drafting team (6 days)  01/3 Drafting team formation & starting of the statement drafting (7 days)  08/3 First draft put for comments (7 days)   15/3 Drafting the updated statement according to the comments received (3 days)  18/3 posting of the final draft that will be discussed in the ME Space session at ICANN 70 As a first step, we are pleased to ask you to propose topics that you find appropriate to be addressed. The proposed topics should be hot topics in ICANN that give us the opportunity to give the opinion of our region thereupon. Please give your proposals as soon as possible and not later than 21 February 2021 at 23:59 UTC. Dear all, I’m pleased to accept Fahd’s proposal even if it’s not aligned with the charter. I think that it’s a chance to have these 3 young people interested to be deeply involved in the ME Space activities and volunteering their time and energy to serve the community. So Dima, Abdelmonem and Rolla are today the 3 co-chairs of the ME Space. I’m excited to work with them starting next Monday since we need to prepare for the ME Space at ICANN 70. Selected individuals will have a unique opportunity to work with accomplished colleagues from around the globe to help shape the Internet's technical coordination and policy development. The deadline to submit applications is 18 March 2021 at 23:59 Universal Coordinated Time (UTC). We are inviting applications for the following positions: Three members of the ICANN Board of Directors. Three regional representatives to the At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) – one each representing the Africa region, Asia, Australia, and Pacific Islands region, and Latin America and Caribbean region. Two members of the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) Council – one representing the Contracted Parties House and one representing the Non-Contracted Parties House. One member of the Country Code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO) Council. Guided by the broad public interest, those selected will work to fulfill ICANN's mission to coordinate the global Internet's system of unique identifiers, and in particular, to ensure its stable and secure operation. The selected leaders will make a valuable public service contribution toward ensuring the stable and secure operation of the Internet's unique identifier systems. Qualifications Fluency in English is a requirement for all positions. Other qualifications, skills, and time commitments vary depending on the position. For information, visit the NomCom webpage. Each ICANN Board member has the option to receive compensation in accordance with the resolution passed by the Board on 30 July 2014, but it is not required (See Board Member Compensation). The remaining positions are voluntary. Application Deadline and Process There is an online candidate portal to submit applications. All applications are confidential. For full consideration, the NomCom must receive applications by 18 March 2021, 23:59 UTC. Candidate applications that remain incomplete at the end of this period will not be considered.
