Suffice it to say that I've discussed the proposal with my ALAC latin american colleague (LAC) Carlos Aguiere. He tells me that LAC is interested in the idea too.
Good to hear. Frankly, I don't recall anyone from At-Large in San Juan who wasn't supportive of the idea.
personally I am of the view that the proposal should not come from the NA region, but instead as a collaborative efforts between those - interested - from the regional RALOs and elsewhere. In a sense, it should be bottom up and have buy-in from other regions
We're in total agreement on this, as is Nick (who said exactly the same thing as you to Darlene and me in response to her introducing the Summit to the RALO secretariat mailing list). We can be the catalyst but this must be seen as more than a regional initiative. The big concern is the speed at which this can happen. My experiences at the LACRALO MOU-ratification meeting, and watching ALAC grind its collective teeth regarding its Board rep election process, don't instil confidence that At-Large orgs can move to endorse the Summit -- or notify ALSs in other regions about it -- with the speed necessary for us to advance the idea for ICANN budgetary approval in time to make a Summit happen in June. The initial Summit proponents, most of whom are relative ICANN newbies, need the help of our better-connected participants here to help spread the word. - Evan
