Hi all, I think that Sylvia brought up an interesting point for another reason. When we start discussing the FY 13 budget, NARALO will be requesting funding for a GA and I assume we will get the same amounts as allocated to the three RALOs during the FY 12 budget (6 participants for a total of $25,000). Frankly, I really do not want us to be limited to "6" participants. Rather, I would prefer that we be allocated "$25,000" (which is the amount inserted into the FY 12 budget for each RALO in that year) and lets see how far we can make it stretch. We have members who live very close to Toronto (where the meeting will be held) and would not need full travel funding (perhaps just perdiems and hotel rooms). If we are allocated a specific dollar figure, we could stretch it to include more people than just 6 people. I don't think that travel in North America costs quite as much as it does in other regions where you are going from country to country and often can't get to one point to the other directly. In order to be able to start thinking about alternative solutions that may be acceptable to ICANN, however, we need some more information.
How did the Budget team arrive at the number of 6 ALS representatives? Was there a specific budget amount allowed for the GA? Were there financial assumptions for a travel budget? I would like to ask if it is possible to know what was the process that you have used to reach that number.
If we have more information about the decision processes that led to the 6 ALS determination, we will be much better suited to develop alternative options.
