Hi, Thanks. And yes, it makes sense that the At-Large set its own process in the same way as the SO's do. And ALAC will have more people voting on its seat than either of the GNSO houses. a. On 23 Jul 2010, at 01:31, Alan Greenberg wrote:
Avri, not sure if Cheryl is around at the moment, so I will answer the parts that I am aware of.
There was a revised version of the Preliminary Draft which I believe was submitted to the SIC prior to Brussels. I can't find it online, but am attaching a copy here. I am also attaching a redline version showing the changes which were made based on discussions within the ABSdt or to address issues raised by ICANN legal counsel or Board members. I heard no additional comments on this version, so presume that it will become the final version with minimal changes.
We have been told that we can initiate the process up to but not including the final election prior to enacting of the Bylaw changes, and that is why the call for SoIs was issued. I am assuming that Board motion 1.8 at the Brussels meeting will trigger submitting the final version of the selection document to the Board for their approval if it indeed needs Board approval. As I understand it, for the SOs, the process has been that the SO Council sets the Board member selection process for their SO. We are expecting a similar situation here.

Hi Cheryl,
Thanks for these pointer. I had indeed seen these documents and had wandered about on the page you reference as well as read the whitepaper, though I never submitted comments.
Perhaps I am being really really blind, but I see nothing that announces itself as: Final Process for Choosing ALAC Director that is based on review of comments and as approved by SIC/Board. Is the Preliminary Draft the approved plan?
Thanks and please forgive me for being slow at finding my way around the ALAC processes.

Hi Avri et.al. To answer the question about the approved process, the White Paper on the whole selection Process went to full ICANN Public Comment back in Feb this year (ending 6th March) see http://www.icann.org/en/public-comment/public-comment-201003-en.htm#at-large...; and of course all the details of all the activities involved in this process are found on pages linked from the Wiki Master page in this important topic => https://st.icann.org/working-groups/index.cgi?at_large_director_appointment_...

I think the issue is that idea of an At Large Director is now out for public comment:
http://icann.org/en/public-comment/#al-director
(comment period closes on 31 July 2010)
yet on Wednesday, 21 July 2010, the At Large issued a call for statements of interest for an ALAC-selected Board member, presupposing that the proposed bylaw revisions would be adopted.
