Hi Beau, The NTIA meeting is on the 28th of February; I will also be there. Please note the following: "Due to security requirements and to facilitate entry to the Department of Commerce building, anyone wishing to attend must contact Ashley Heineman at (202) 4820298 or aheineman@ntia.doc.gov at least five (5) days prior to the meeting in order to provide the necessary clearance information. Attendees should arrive at least one-half hour prior to the start of the meeting and must present a valid passport or other photo identification up their arrival. Members of the public will have an opportunity to ask questions at the meeting." regards, Danny --- "Brendler, Beau" <Brenbe@consumer.org> wrote:
Since today's call has been cancelled, here are some things I am working on/aware of:
* I have been unsuccessful in trying to get a formal face-to-face meeting with the GAC in Delhi. We are still negotiating for something informal. A source in the GAC tells me that we have a lot in common and that there is political will among many to be more involved with the ALAC. I am also told that GAC is not necessarily open to the idea of liaisons (there is no recognized liaison to the GAC, from ALAC, though Izumi Aizu has volunteered for the role, as have I). This may be for bureaucratic and process matters as opposed to categorical opposition.
* We are negotiating with Jon Nevett of Network Solutions (co-chair of the Registrar constituency) for an informal meeting with ALAC as a first step to creating a relationship. Nick and Cheryl have promised to help facilitate. Unfortunately as Danny has mentioned we have not seen much movement on the RAA or on the document that is supposed to explain why most of the input from the user community (and Consumers Union, for that matter) was disregarded or made lowest priority.
* Emanating from discussions about the RAA is that the ALAC/user community may be called upon soon to work on creating a consumer bill of rights-type document for registrars. Those who have input on this should send it to this list prior to Delhi or during, if possible. If you need some starting points for reference, note that my organization, working with ICANN staff, published this document a couple of months ago: http://www.consumerwebwatch.org/pdfs/domainname.pdf
* I'm scheduled to speak Feb. 29 at a U.S. Commerce Dept. public hearing on the future of ICANN's relationship to the U.S. government, specifically, the points referenced in this document:
http://www.ntia.doc.gov/ntiahome/frnotices/2007/ICANN_JPA_110207.html
<http://www.ntia.doc.gov/ntiahome/frnotices/2007/ICANN_JPA_110207.html>
If you as the North American user community have anything to say about this, it's critical you either a) send me your comments for inclusion in my response b) send Wendy your comments for inclusion in her response c) send in your own comments to the NTIA. The ALAC talked about setting aside time to draft a formal response while in New Delhi, but I have not seen it formally scheduled and the deadline is Feb. 15.

Hi Nick,
I am sorry to report that nobody has put anything on the agenda nor sent any agenda item requests to me. The lists have been pretty busy with everybody prepping for India.
Evan and I have decided to postpone this conference call to next month. I am VERY sorry if this causes any inconvenience (especially to you, Nick).
