All, I have finally managed to set up a blog in English about ICANN and Internet Governance issues. I plan to use it to post my updates as a Board liaison (in addition to those given directly to the Committee) and for what regards the other processes I am involved in, to spread news and encourage discussion. Don't expect too many posts, but I'll try to use it whenever there is information that needs to be circulated, statements and explanations to be posted, or other blog postings that I'd like to comment ;) The URL is http://bertola.eu/netblog/ and of course, feel free to forward to other RALOs and lists that might be interested in it. Regards, -- vb. Vittorio Bertola - vb [a] bertola.eu <-------- --------> finally with a new website at http://bertola.eu/ <--------
I use my blog for policy proposals and criticism of ICANN. Enjoy. <http://wendy.seltzer.org/blog> --Wendy Vittorio Bertola wrote:

Hi Wendy Why not use the ALAC mailing lists to suggest policy so that we can try to do something about it? And a blog based only on negative criticism isn't a positive step towards improvement in the interests of the wider Internet community... maybe constructive criticism and practical solutions would be better than just straight criticism of ICANN. Who does that benefit? I wasn't suggesting the two were exclusive. I've made the same policy suggestions on ALAC lists and teleconferences, and we can all see how far those have gotten, even when they achieve ALAC consensus.

Well, so far, I've found it to benefit the community more than celebratory press releases and substance-free signing ceremonies. --Wendy -- Wendy Seltzer -- wendy@seltzer.org Visiting Fellow, Oxford Internet Institute Fellow, Berkman Center for Internet & Society http://cyber.law.harvard.edu/seltzer.html http://www.chillingeffects.org/
We have had consensus on the research for a long time, but no one ever filled out the form to request that it be done. We still haven't responded to the request for more information to get funding to run the research that you proposed. Just like the issues report that took us a couple months to find out how to properly request it - we have been simply incompetent in some cases. That has nothing to do with the structure and everything to do with us, the members of the ALAC. So- now we are getting better at filling out the forms, bring back up some of the policy suggestions in the proper format, and we can move ahead. I noticed that no-one has bothered to rank the top 10 issues yet... Hi Folks, As your Interim Chair for the North American RALO, I'd like to discourage a practice that has crept into list participation over the last month: cross-posting to this list and other lists. Although a public interest item well may be of general interest to persons on many mailing lists, please post to each of the lists separately. The problem is that the responses segment the discussion, as people respond to lists to which they are not members. As messages bounce, we end up getting bits and pieces of discussions posted here, and it's really very confusing. I'd also like to keep us focused on the most immediate issues at hand: the MOU and the upcoming San Juan meeting. Darlene has posted a number of helpful comments, so please follow up on those if you have more input. For those of you who are new to the ALAC and the NARALO, I'd be interested in hearing about how you find these email lists as a mechanism for discussion and work. Are you getting too many messages? Not enough? Prefer moderated lists? Do you prefer working via conference call? wiki? We should explore various alternatives as we strive to make our tools work best for our schedules. Bret
