Just curious. Why does NARALO need its own strategic plan? As the North American region of ALAC, its objectives are fairly well spelled out in the bylaws. Given that so much of what ALAC does is reactive to the initiatives of other ICANN constituencies, how much need exists for strategy beyond "audit ICANN activities and ensure that what it does won't negatively impact end users"? And even if such a plan was needed, why would each region do its own, with the potential for some to be in conflict with each other and thus cause distraction from ALAC's bylaw mandate? Far be it from me to tell people how to spend their volunteer time. But this just seems wasteful to me, and will be ultimately forgotten as ALAC struggles to react to the universe around it. - Evan
Hi Evan, I believe the NARALO strategic plan helps NARALO articulate and refine its priorities beyond the general bylaws. While the bylaw are set of guided rules for ICANN, the strategic documentation from a regional helps to articulate a framework to proactively identify and address emerging challenges within the region rather than simply reacting to other initiatives within ICANN SO/ACs. Even though ALAC provides a unified mandate, the regional context in North America has its own unique dynamics and opportunities. I'm sure other RALOs are also working on this same type of strategic plan that can serve to align our specific activities with ALAC’s overarching goals while also addressing local needs without conflicting with other regions. The intention is to enhance our collective effectiveness, not to create distractions. Caleb Ogundele On Thu, Mar 27, 2025 at 5:35 PM Evan Leibovitch via NA-Discuss < na-discuss@icann.org> wrote:
