Hi everyone, Thanks for the welcome :) I believe the best introduction to what we do at AlterMundi is the short video summary you'll find in our home page: http://altermundi.net/ It's in spanish but subtitles are available in many languages, thanks to the collaboration of the Community Networks movement around the world. AlterMundi is an organization that fosters the rising of a new paradigm founded on freedom gained through peer collaboration. We explore different manifestations of these peer-to-peer alternatives and in particular we do a great deal of work in relation to Wireless Community Networks. We have developed a WCN model that is specifically designed for small rural or semi-rural settlements. It is based on very low-cost, multi-radio mesh nodes running Libre-Mesh firmware[1], which automatically configures the mesh network. The firmware can be customized using a web tool we call the Chef. We also provide tunnel broker service through Librenet6[2], for community networks that don't have access to native IPv6 connection in their region. Several network projects in South America and other regions have already adopted the tools we have developed. Regarding DNS related issues, we have developed a dynamic resolution implementation that let's every community network using Librenet6+Libre-Mesh make their hosts resolution work globally. This is based on dnsmask and uses dhcp leases to populate the DNS server's data for the community network domain. FQHNs take the form: hostname.red.domain.org; for example: dig AAAA intiuata.red.deltalibre.org.ar @8.8.8.8 will answer: intiuata.red.deltalibre.org.ar. 601 IN AAAA 2a00:1508:af9:a800::47:d2f1 a more complete perspective can be seen running: dig AAAA intiuata.red.deltalibre.org.ar @8.8.8.8 +trace The combination of this dynamic resolution with global IPv6 provided by the community tunnel broker offers the people in these networks what we believe is a unique situation which greatly improves their Peer to Peer experience in the Internet, as they can transparently publish globally reachable services easily from any connected host. As you can guess we do a lot of experimental work from an open source / free knowledge perspective, so we'll be glad to share our work in this list and it's member organizations. Just let us know if you need more info on any subject. Cheers! Dear NPOC members,
We are pleased to inform NCSG EC has approved a new NPOC member during the recent EC meeting. The new member is* Alter Mundi* from Argentina and *Nicolás Echániz* is the representative to NPOC/NCSG. Their website can be found at http://altermundi.net/
Dear Nicolás Echániz,
We welcome you in our community. Feel free to introduce your organisation and yourself to the NPOC community. Share your interests and of course your concerns related to the DNS by posting them to this mailing list (NPOC Discuss), which is accessible to every NPOC member.
Hope to read you soon and have you on our NPOC calls in the near future (next call will be scheduled in August).
Kind regards,
