Fwd: Invitation to join the #Internet4All campaign
Dear Rudi, please take note of these 3 e-mails from colleagues in the NCSG, as a sample of the members that consider these accumulation of initiatives, as important each one may be, a distraction from policy work the GNSO council is supported to do. I strongly believe that these initiatives would go to the CWG on IG, or even better to ALAC, and we all at NPOC should concentrate back to the narrow remit of the GNSO Council. Grace As far as I know we have not endorsed anything as NCUC - but if we have, I was against it at the time. ? My concern is that this seemingly innocuous issue sets a precedent and before you know it we get 20 requests per year to endorse campaigns and causes that are not related to our actual scope of policy making authority. Some of those issues might divide us, leading to long debates that detract from our ability to do the things we are supposed to do.
I see potential for a huge time waste. It's not like we have too little to do
So: publicity among and endorsements by NCUC members, Yes. Formal endorsement by NCUC, No.

I agree, NCUC/NCSG are appropriate vehicles for publicizing these initiatives among civil society organizations/individuals, and many of its members may be interested in joining in, but #Internet4All does not seem to be a domain name policy issue and I think we had better stick to our basic mission.

Just on this point I hope that as this seems to be an infrastructure related campaign.
Still reading about it at the moment but my gut reaction is that this may be more appropriate for individual NCUC members and organisations to endorse?

I think Milton is exactly right. We have more than enough on our plate in this group respecting issues that are tied to IANA policy that affects us all. We don’t need to become a broader policy forum for things that are beyond our remit. Indeed, we just spent a huge amount of political capital making sure that these things were outside the scope of what ICANN is going to do … for good reason

+1 Lots of pdp work going on. Need help. Useful to know about this, distracting from main mission to spend time on formal endorsement in my view. Stephanie Perrin
