Dear RSSAC caucus members: On Thursday we will hold the next meeting of the work party on guidelines for changing root server addresses. Below are some topics and questions you can consider in preparation for our discussion. 1. Notifications to relying parties: - who are the parties that rely on staying up-to-date with changes to root server IP addresses? are some parties more reliant than others? - what happens if a relying party doesn’t have advance notice of a change? - who should be responsible for making notifications or learning about changes to root server addresses? - if there is to be a list of parties to notify, who should be responsible for maintaining and validating that list? 2. Use of former address space: - The document currently has a recommendation for the ASO to develop a global policy to prevent former root server addresses from being reused for another purpose. The work party chairs feel that this is venturing out-of-scope for the purpose of this work party, which is to set expectations for root server operators and community members. 3. History of changes - A table has been added to the appendix which documents root server address changes since 2000. Is there value in keeping this table or something like it in the final document? DW
