Fwd: [ssac] Tor Project seeking input on future of .onion naming
Dear SSAC Members, The Tor Project sought comment on proposals to change their naming system back in 2017. I’ve been revisiting this again for this work party and seeing where things landed. It became known as Proposal 279 and is now incorporated into their annual, The Onion Plan. If you want to quickly get up to speed on interesting naming issues in the Tor Universe I suggest reading the Proposal 279 Appendix in 2022’s The Onion Plan. Many interesting naming rabbit holes to dive into on this page. <https://tpo.pages.torproject.net/onion-services/onionplan/appendixes/prop279...> Thanks, Andrew

Dear SSAC Members,
Forwarding this as it is relevant to SAC090, and thought some SSAC members may be interested in it. I have no relationship with the Tor Project.
The Tor Project has begun to explore methods of upgrading its .onion naming system and is seeking comment on their proposals. <https://blog.torproject.org/blog/cooking-onions-names-your-onions>
As part of this the Tor Project is developing a pluggable naming API for Tor, such that Tor will not be tied to one naming protocol. <https://gitweb.torproject.org/torspec.git/tree/proposals/279-naming-layer-ap...>
